New Eilat Ramon Airport

10 reasons to be enthusiastic about the new Eilat Ramon airport in Israel:

Eilat Ramon Airport, which will open in early 2018, will be the first civilian airport built in Israel since the founding of the state.

Opened in early 2018, the new 34,000-square-meter Israeli airport, Eilat Ramon Airport, is located 18 kilometers north of Eilat, Israel's main tourist resort on the northern tip of the Red Sea. Its official name is International Airport Ilan and Asaf Ramon.

Here's why you should start being excited about this southern flying destination.

The new airport is in a really awesome place.

The airport was built on desert land recovered in the heart of the Timna Valley, a region rich in copper reserves that has been operating since the reign of King Solomon. The result is dazzling, with the glass terminal that offers exceptional views of the mountainous desert landscape.

The new airport will be perfectly integrated into this desert environment.

The project's architects, Mann Shinar and Moshe Zur, designed the airport to adapt perfectly to the environment. In this spirit, the building of the terminal is self-shaded and looks like a big desert rock.

And even more impressive is the view from inside the terminal. There is a single free-flowing floor with nothing but furniture divided between arrivals and departures. As a result, passengers will have an uninterrupted view of the landscape as they cross the airport.

The new airport will be more accessible than the current Ovda airport.

The new airport will replace two others: Eilat J. Hozman Airport in central Eilat and Ovda Airport, 60 kilometers north of Eilat. European tourists heading to Eilat on low cost flights via Ryanair are currently flying to Ovda.
